day 8: theres life!

so today my girlfreind spotted some daphina in the bowl!
i put a few more granules of food in to see what will happen, there may be hope yet.
i now plan to grow them big. transfer them, and give them to my new batch of triops as food a few weeks after they hatch

Day 5: death

There is a small plant growing in the bowl and what i believe to be some form of fungal spore.
All the triops are dead and i will set the new batch up tomorow.
May they rest in peace.

Day 4

So today i could count 3 triops but i think there may have been 4 and detritus removal was due.
I carefully removed the detritus with a credit card like object so i could see if i picked up any triops, the whole process took about 5 minutes and i seemed to remove most of it. The only issue is that i can now only count 2 triops.
I believe the biggest triop (about 3mm) has eaten the others as they were significantly smaller, i reckon closer to 1mm. the remaining 2 seem to be of equal size so i can only hope they will eat the newly acquired food, and not each other!
Bit of a shock with the food (if you can call it a shock), it expanded massively when it mixed with water, and i mean massively, probably over 5/6 times if not 10!

day 3

This morning i thought all the triops had died, nothing was swimming or digging and there was no sign of movement, so like yesterday i gave them a few hours in the sunlight and returned.
I had to stare for a pretty long time but a few caught my eye, bearing in mind they have theoretically been hatched for only 24 hours i should expect them to be small. as far as i can tell, the temperature hasn't exceeded 24 degrees so i don't think that's an issue, and i believe they are getting enough light. only tomorrow can tell how many have hatched.

day 2

so this morning i awoke to find nothing in the bowl, fearing that they hadnt survived the night with my make shift lamp (torch taped to a box) i left them for a few hours. Once i had returned life was in the bowl!
I could count 4 somethings swimming about which raised my spirits. Cant get a picture right now as my camera cant focus on them and their too small.

Day 1

i started off by pouring about a litre of water into the suplied container and left it to warm up (22 degrees is ideal) and put a galileo thermometer next to the water to check the room temp.
After 3/4 hours i poured some of the detritus (containing the triop eggs) into the container which should be at 25 degrees if it is at the same temperature as the room.
They should hatch within 48 hours, hopefully sooner, and i should be able to see some critters within 3 days or so
